They Let Me BREED?!

So, like, I’ve got this kid, right? She’s fourteen. It gets pretty hairy around here sometimes, but since I’ve only got four years to go until she’s a legal adult, I figure I can tough it out. Plus, it turns out she can be pretty rad sometimes.

When she was two years old, we lived in Sudbury. I was a college student and we were living on my (appallingly insufficient) student loans. We became expert thrift store shoppers, and found all sorts of gems. Including an antique pram similar to this one. This poor pram. I can’t believe what I did to it.

Poor, Poor Mini-Me

Yesterday, I got a frantic call from the admin staff at my daughter’s school. She’d been brought into the office (half supported, half carried is more like it) after falling and sustaining a head injury. The secretary asked me whether I wanted to come pick her up immediately and take her to hospital, or whether I wanted them to call her an ambulance and meet her at the emergency room.

!!!

As the story goes, she was on her lunch break, walking along the sidewalk with a friend, minding her own business. They were on their way back to school from the park. Her friend was walking a step ahead of her, and when she heard a thud, she looked back to see Gwen Junior laying on her back on the sidewalk, coming to! She didn’t see it happen, and my daughter doesn’t remember falling. She cracked her head and hurt her neck in the fall, and was dizzy and nauseated afterwards (and all day afterwards, really).

Mini Muffins for Mini Me

For a while we thought my daughter, Gwen Junior (that’s not really her name), had a gluten intolerance, so we stocked up on gluten free crap (which is WAY MORE EXPENSIVE I’LL HAVE YOU KNOW) and I set about learning this nutritional lifestyle. In the end, the girl turned out not to be intolerant, but I’ve kept us somewhat… lower-gluten, if you will. We feel healthier just cutting down.

Today, I did some baking for an upcoming Federated Health Charities bake sale at my office. In addition to raisin bran and blueberry bran muffins, I made a small batch of gluten free banana mini muffins, and they were the best of the bunch!
